Pets in Kingshot provide utility skills, troop bonuses and powerful combat effects as your kingdom develops. Since Pet Food, advancement materials and Taming Marks are limited, upgrading every pet equally is rarely efficient. This Kingshot Pet Guide covers the best pets, unlock order, tier list and upgrade priorities for different players.
When Does the Pet System Unlock?
The Pet feature requires Town Center Lv. 18 and only appears after the kingdom has been open for enough days. New pets are then released gradually as the kingdom progresses. The game does not publish one universal schedule for every kingdom, and recorded unlock dates vary slightly, so the timeline below should be treated as an approximate range.
|
Approximate Kingdom Age |
Pets Unlocked |
Main Shift |
|
Around Day 55 |
Gray Wolf, Lynx, Bison |
Construction, Stamina and gathering utility |
|
Around Day 72–80 |
Cheetah, Moose |
Pet Food generation and the first combat debuff |
|
Around Day 110–113 |
Lion, Grizzly Bear |
Rare-item generation and broader battle support |
|
Around Day 190–197 |
Giant Rhino, Mighty Bison |
Attack and Squad Capacity buffs |
|
Around Day 270–281 |
Great Moose, Alpha Black Panther |
Rally Capacity and Troop Lethality |
|
Around Day 350–365 |
Regal White Lion, Ironclad War Elephant |
Defense and Health buffs |
|
Around Day 450 |
Ironclad War Bear |
Enemy Squad Defense reduction |
The exact dates matter less than the pattern: early pets improve everyday development, while later releases increasingly focus on rallies and PvP.
Kingshot Pet Tier List
This tier list ranks pets by their overall usefulness and how long their value lasts. Your alliance role still matters: a rally starter will value capacity and combat buffs more than a casual or development-focused player.

The rankings are not instructions to ignore B-tier pets. Gray Wolf and Lynx can still produce real daily value; they simply do not need the same resource commitment as the strongest later pets.
Pets Are Four Different Investments
Before choosing a priority, separate the pet system into four parts.
Leveling uses Pet Food and improves a pet’s primary bonuses. These bonuses contribute to Squad Attack and Squad Defense, so leveling is not only about unlocking a better active skill.

Potential Advancement allows the pet to continue progressing through later levels and skill breakpoints. Growth Manuals are used for advancement, with Nutrient Potions and Promotion Medallions becoming additional requirements.

Refinement uses Common or Advanced Taming Marks to develop six secondary bonuses: Health and Lethality for Infantry, Cavalry and Archers. These are permanent account stats rather than effects limited to the pet currently selected.
Finally, each pet has a unique skill. Some provide an immediate economic benefit, while others activate a temporary combat buff or debuff.
This distinction is important. You may want to unlock and use an early pet’s skill without pushing that pet through every expensive advancement stage.
Make the Early Utility Pets Work for You

The first three pets are practical tools.
Gray Wolf increases Construction Speed for projects started while its Construction Aide skill is active. Use it before beginning a long Town Center upgrade or one of its major prerequisites. Activating it after construction has already started will not retroactively shorten the timer.
Lynx restores Stamina, making it useful when extra beast hunts, Intel missions or stamina-based event points will immediately benefit you.
Bison allows the next gathering squad that reaches a wilderness resource tile to complete its gathering instantly. Save it for a high-level or nearly full tile instead of wasting the effect on a small resource node.
These pets are worth developing until their skills feel useful. For low spenders, however, fully advancing all three before later pets arrive can leave too few materials for more valuable releases.
The Shift from Daily Utility to Resource Growth
The next releases change how you should think about pet value.
Cheetah uses Scent Mastery to locate Pet Food. This makes it a helpful bridge for free-to-play and low-spending accounts because every later pet also needs Pet Food. It is worth using consistently, but Pet Food will eventually stop being the only serious bottleneck.
Lion uses Gift of the King to uncover lost items from the Badland. Its possible finds include scarce materials used in other progression systems, giving it lasting value even after newer combat pets arrive. Lion therefore becomes an important long-term target, but it does not need its own isolated strategy: its strength comes from supporting the rest of your account while Cheetah supports the pet system itself.
Moose and Grizzly Bear sit between utility and endgame combat. Moose reduces enemy Squad Health, while Grizzly Bear improves March Speed and reduces enemy Lethality. They can be useful during active PvP windows, although they are less universally valuable than resource generation or the strongest later combat buffs.
Build a Combat Toolkit
Later pets are easier to understand when grouped by the job they perform.
For offensive pressure, Giant Rhino increases all Squads’ Attack, Alpha Black Panther increases Troop Lethality, and Ironclad War Bear reduces enemy Squad Defense. These skills support stronger damage windows rather than everyday development.
For deployment size, Mighty Bison increases Squad Capacity, while Great Moose increases Rally Capacity. These are particularly attractive to players who regularly start rallies, since their available troop and rally limits matter more in coordinated attacks.
For survival, Regal White Lion raises Squads’ Defense and Ironclad War Elephant increases Squad Health. They are valuable in PvP, garrisons and long battles where keeping troops alive is just as important as increasing damage.
Do not assume that every pet skill works in every mode. For example, combat-related Pet bonuses remain active in Tri-Alliance Clash, while Deployment Capacity, March Speed and rally-related buffs are disabled. Always check the current battlefield rules before activating a capacity-focused skill.
Should You Level, Advance or Refine Next?
Use Pet Food when you want more primary stats or need to reach the next level requirement.
Use advancement materials when the next level range or skill breakpoint offers enough value to justify the cost. Promotion Medallions should be treated carefully because they become a significant late-stage bottleneck.
Use Taming Marks when you want permanent troop bonuses. Refinement results can raise some attributes and lower others. The new stats only replace the old ones after confirmation, but the refinement item is still consumed when you reject the roll. Once confirmed, the result cannot be reversed.
Early on, accepting a clear increase in total Power is usually reasonable. Once refinement becomes expensive, start paying closer attention to the troop stats that support your usual formations and alliance role. A secondary stat that reaches a higher quality will not drop back to a lower quality during later refinements.
Upgrade Plans for Different Players
A free-to-play or low-spending player should bring Gray Wolf, Lynx and Bison to practical skill levels, use Cheetah for Pet Food, and then preserve advancement materials for Lion and the stronger combat releases.
A rally starter should prioritize Mighty Bison, Giant Rhino, Great Moose and later offensive or defensive pets according to the alliance’s battle needs. Capacity buffs are powerful, but only in modes where those bonuses are enabled.
A rally joiner can develop more patiently. Refinement and primary pet stats still strengthen the account, but there is less reason to rush Rally Capacity or every new combat skill immediately.
In every case, avoid upgrading all pets evenly. That approach creates many small Power gains while delaying the pets that could provide a meaningful skill or stat breakpoint.
Use Skills Before They Become Wasted Cooldowns
Pet skills must be used deliberately. The interface no longer selects a skill automatically when opened, so you need to choose the intended skill manually.
Activate Gray Wolf before starting construction, not afterward. Use Bison only when a worthwhile gathering tile is ready. Trigger Stamina or resource skills often enough that their cooldowns are not sitting idle for days. Save battle skills for rallies, PvP events and structure fights rather than activating them simply because the button is available.
Conclusion
A well-planned Kingshot pet strategy is less about chasing every new unlock and more about building an account that stays effective as the kingdom develops. Keep your resources focused, adjust your priorities to your role, and let each pet earn its place in your progression plan.
