In Last Z, hero equipment is a key system for increasing your team’s combat power. As you progress, you’ll encounter D3, D4, D5 gear, Purple and Orange equipment, Enhancement, and Promote upgrades. Understanding these systems is essential to avoid wasting valuable resources like Power Cores and upgrade materials.
Early gear is mainly for progression, while D5 Orange equipment is the true long-term investment goal. Confused? Keep reading.
Last Z Hero Equipment
Each hero in Last Z has four equipment slots: Gun, Helmet, Armor and Boots. Although all four pieces improve your hero’s stats, they do not have the same priority when it comes to upgrading. The best upgrade strategy depends on the hero’s role.

Last Z Equipment Tier
Many new players are confused by equipment names like D3, D4, and D5. The letter D represents the equipment tier, and the higher the number, the higher the quality and growth potential.
|
D3 |
Early-stage equipment mainly used during the beginning of progression |
|
D4 |
Mid-game equipment and an important step toward endgame builds |
|
D5 |
The current endgame goal, usually referring to high-tier Orange equipment |
Higher-tier equipment is usually a big upgrade. A fresh piece of better gear can often beat an older piece that you’ve already spent a lot of resources upgrading.
For example, a new D4 item can easily outperform a fully upgraded D3 item, or a new D5 item can be stronger than a heavily upgraded D4 item.
So, you know what I’m saying ? don’t spend too many rare resources on gear that you’ll replace soon.
Equipment Rarity Levels
Last Z equipment is categorized by color, from lowest to highest: Green → Blue → Purple → Orange
|
Rarity |
Best Used For |
Purpose |
Investment Recommendation |
|
Green Equipment |
Early game |
Provides basic stats and helps increase initial power |
Use only as temporary gear, avoid investing resources |
|
Blue Equipment |
Early game |
Better stats than green gear and helps smooth progression |
Use as transitional equipment only |
|
Purple Equipment |
Mid game |
Improves team strength before a complete Orange set is available |
Usable, but avoid heavy long-term investment |
|
Orange Equipment (Legendary) |
Mid-to-late game |
Highest potential and can continue growing through Enhancement and Promote |
Main long-term investment target |
Simply put, Green and Blue gear are mainly for early-game progression, Purple gear helps you get through the mid-game, and Orange gear is the true endgame equipment worth investing your Power Cores and upgrade materials into. Xx
Alloy vs Power Core
Equipment upgrades in Last Z mainly rely on two important resources: Enhancement Alloy and Power Core.
|
|
|
|
Enhancement Alloy is used to increase equipment levels. For example, upgrading equipment from Lv1 to Lv20 requires a large amount of Alloy. The higher the equipment level, the more enhancement materials are required. |
Power Core is used for Promote, the equipment breakthrough system. Compared with normal enhancement materials, Power Cores are much rarer and should be spent carefully. The most important use of Power Core is upgrading D5 Orange equipment, allowing it to unlock additional attributes and further increase combat effectiveness. |
Equipment Enhancement vs Promote
Many players confuse Enhancement and Promote, but they are two different systems.
- Enhancement
Enhancement increases the equipment level and improves its basic stats. It is the foundation of equipment growth.
- Promote
Promote is the breakthrough system that allows equipment to reach a higher level of power. Once an Orange piece of equipment reaches Lv20, it can complete its first Promote upgrade.
This is why experienced players usually recommend that after obtaining D5 equipment, you should first focus on getting all main equipment pieces to Lv20 and completing the first Promote instead of focusing on upgrading only one item.
How F2P Players Can Obtain Orange Equipment?
For free-to-play players, obtaining D5 Orange equipment requires patience and long-term resource management.
One of the more consistent methods is the Valor Shop.

F2P players should prioritize saving Valor to exchange for Orange Equipment Selection Chests rather than spending resources too early on Purple equipment or lower-value items.
Building a strong D5 Orange equipment setup takes time, but efficient resource planning will prevent wasted investment and help your main team reach its full potential.
Conclusion
There’s no shortcut to building strong gear in Last Z. Start by collecting the right equipment, work toward a full D5 Orange set, then upgrade to Lv20 and complete your first Promote to unlock Troop Damage and Troop HP.
A complete gear set is always better than relying on one powerful item. Build step by step, and your team’s strength will keep growing. Xx
