Tiles Survive X-SSR Lava Build Guide: Skills, Gear, and Best Team

CassiaCassia

Lava is the first X-SSR hero in Tiles Survive, but his rarity is only part of the appeal. He can pressure the enemy frontline, spread Burning, and heal himself when his Health drops. The key is to give him room to keep attacking: place a dedicated tank beside him, then build around his Normal Attacks and Molten Rampage.

This Mone guide covers Lava’s skills, gear priorities, and team options, so you can build him around the heroes you already use.

Lava Overview

lava tiles survive

Faction: Stalwart | Role: Front-row damage dealer and off-tank

Lava’s Normal Attacks deal more damage while his Health is above half. Once it drops below half, those attacks restore Health instead. He needs to keep attacking to benefit from that healing, so place a dedicated main tank beside him. If Lava takes the full force of the enemy opening, he may fall before he can recover.

Lava’s availability depends on your server’s progression. Check Hero Recruitment before committing resources to his build.

Lava Skills and Upgrade Priority

Claw Combo

Lava’s Normal Attack strikes multiple times. At Skill Level 1, each hit deals 35% of his Attack and has a 25% chance to inflict Burning. Burning lasts three seconds and deals damage equal to 50% of his Attack per second.

Leveling Claw Combo increases its hit damage, but its Burning chance remains at 25%. Upgrade it for stronger Normal Attacks, not more frequent Burns.

Molten Rampage

This is Lava’s main damage skill. At Skill Level 1, it deals 800% of his Attack to nearby enemies, then puts him in a Berserk state for five seconds. During that time, his Attack Speed rises by 100%, and Normal Attacks against Burning targets deal an additional 15% of his Attack. Its cooldown is 12 seconds.

Upgrade Molten Rampage first if Lava survives reliably. It gives him an immediate area attack and a faster stretch of Normal Attacks. Those extra attacks also help when Molten Duality switches to healing.

Molten Duality

At Skill Level 1, Lava gains 7.5% Normal Attack damage while above 50% Health. Below 50%, each Normal Attack restores Health equal to 100% of his Attack.

This is why Attack and attack uptime matter so much to his build. Upgrade Molten Duality after Molten Rampage, particularly if Lava reaches low Health often and has enough time to fight his way back. If he dies almost immediately, improve his protection first; a stronger healing skill cannot help after he stops attacking.

Molten Heart

Molten Heart unlocks at 8 stars. Its first level grants 20% to all of Lava’s stats. At Level 5, that stat bonus reaches 60%. It also provides additional bonuses to his Normal Attack and Active Skill damage when activated.

Treat this as a major long-term upgrade, not an early skill-book priority. Reaching eight stars requires a substantial fragment investment.

Suggested order: Molten Rampage → Molten Duality → Claw Combo, then pursue Molten Heart when Lava’s stars allow it. Bring Claw Combo up sooner if Lava needs more Normal Attack damage.

Best Gear for Lava

Lava wants damage without becoming too fragile to use his self-healing. Prioritize:

1. Attack: His skill damage, Burning damage, and low-Health healing all scale with Attack.

2. Damage reduction and durability: These help him survive the first wave of frontline damage.

3. Normal Attack damage: Useful throughout the fight and especially while he is above 50% Health.

4. Healing effect, when available: Consider it if he survives at low Health but struggles to recover.

Do not chase Attack Speed at the expense of keeping him alive. Molten Rampage already provides a large Attack Speed boost; the first job of his gear is to let him reach and use that window.

Lava Claws: Is the Signature Gear Worth Upgrading?

Lava Claws adds the Molten Fury skill, which increases Lava’s Attack and Defense by 10%. Its later upgrades add two useful frontline effects:

Gear milestone

Effect

Unlock

Attack and Defense +10%

Level 10

Damage taken −5%

Level 15

Attack +10% on entering battle; Burning enemies deal 15% less damage

Unlocking Lava Claws is worthwhile if Lava is becoming a regular member of your main team. Level 10 is the first defensive milestone to aim for. Level 15 is a bigger commitment, but its damage reduction effect works well with Lava’s frequent Burning applications. Check the material cost before pushing that far, especially if your main tank still needs gear.

Best Team and Position

Put Nikola in Position 1 and Lava in Position 2. Nikola’s shields help him take the opening pressure, giving Lava more time to apply Burning and use Molten Rampage. From there, choose your back row based on whether you need more damage or protection.

Team

Front row

Back row

When to use it

Damage-focused

Nikola + Lava

Rosie + Tarzan + Ray

Your frontline holds, but you need to finish fights faster

Safer setup

Nikola + Lava

Rosie + Tarzan + Tara

Lava or your damage dealers struggle to survive enemy burst

Try the damage-focused team if Nikola already keeps your frontline stable. Rosie provides sustained damage, Tarzan pressures vulnerable targets, and Ray adds ranged damage. Lava occupies the second front-row slot without leaving the team short on offense.

Switch Ray to Tara when survival is the problem. Tara’s defensive support gives the team more breathing room, though you give up one damage slot. This is a useful adjustment for tougher fights where Lava dies before his Normal Attacks can restore his Health.

If you do not have Nikola, Chef can fill the main-tank slot temporarily while you develop a stronger frontline. Keep Lava in Position 2 and watch the battle replay: if Chef falls early, invest in your tank before putting more resources into Lava’s damage.

Final Thoughts

Start with a reliable main tank, then raise Molten Rampage and adjust Lava’s gear after watching a few battles. Lava Claws Level 10 is a useful defensive milestone; push further when he has a secure place in your main team. For more Tiles Survive build guides, keep an eye on Mone.
