Sunfire Castle is one of the biggest PvP objectives in Whiteout Survival. It is not just another building to rally—it decides who controls the State, who becomes President, and which alliance gets access to some of the most valuable rewards and political privileges in the game.
The basic objective sounds simple: capture the Sunfire Castle and hold it.
In practice, winning requires much more than raw power. Alliances need coordinated rallies, constant reinforcements, proper troop ratios, strong rally leaders, turret control, and precise timing.
This Whiteout Survival Sunfire Castle Battle guide explains the current 2026 rules, how to win, the best attack and defense strategy, troop formations, heroes, Turrets, scoring, rewards, and what changes during State vs. State.
What Is Sunfire Castle in Whiteout Survival?
Sunfire Castle is the central structure of each State and the main objective of the recurring Castle Battle.
Alliances compete to occupy the Castle, and the winning alliance gains the right to appoint the State's President.
Sunfire Castle battles normally happen on a recurring cycle, while the Castle also becomes the main battlefield during State of Power (SvS).

The battle ends immediately if one alliance controls Sunfire Castle for 2.5 consecutive hours.
If nobody manages that before the 5-hour battle ends, the alliance with the longest total occupation time wins instead.
Older guides may still tell you that the event lasts six hours and requires three hours of continuous occupation. Those rules were changed in a later update, so they should no longer be used for current battles.
How to Win Sunfire Castle Battle
There are two possible victory conditions.
Win Condition 1: Hold the Castle for 2.5 Consecutive Hours
If your alliance captures Sunfire Castle and holds it continuously for 2 hours and 30 minutes, the battle ends and your alliance wins immediately.
The word consecutive is extremely important.
If the enemy manages to capture the Castle even briefly, your continuous occupation timer resets.
That means an alliance does not always need to hold Sunfire Castle for long periods to stop an opponent.
Sometimes, breaking their occupation for only a short time is enough to completely reset their winning timer.
Win Condition 2: Longest Total Occupation Time
If no alliance reaches 2.5 consecutive hours before the 5-hour battle ends, the game compares total occupation time.
The alliance that controlled Sunfire Castle for the longest accumulated period wins.
This creates two very different strategic phases.
The Most Important Timing Rule
If your Castle Battle starts at 12:00 UTC and ends at 17:00 UTC, then 14:30 UTC is the key turning point.
Why?
Because after 14:30, there are fewer than 2.5 hours left in the battle.
A newly captured Castle can no longer complete a full consecutive 2.5-hour hold before the event ends.
That means your strategy changes.
|
Battle Phase |
Main Goal |
|
Before 14:30 UTC |
Build or break a 2.5-hour continuous occupation |
|
After 14:30 UTC |
Maximize total occupation time |
Before the 2.5-Hour Deadline
If your enemy is approaching a full 2.5-hour occupation, you must break their hold.
Even if you only capture Sunfire Castle briefly and lose it again, their consecutive occupation timer is reset.
This can be enough to keep the battle alive.
After the Deadline
Once there is not enough time left for a new 2.5-hour continuous occupation, the battle becomes much more about cumulative time.
At that point, pointless rapid flips can actually hurt your alliance if they prevent you from building meaningful occupation time.
Sunfire Castle Battlefield Explained
Sunfire Castle is surrounded by several important battlefield elements.
Understanding them before your first fight will make the event much easier.
Sunfire Castle
The Castle itself is the main objective.
Only one march per player can be stationed in or attacking Sunfire Castle at a time, so alliances need to decide who sends troops, who rallies, and who remains available for secondary objectives.
The most powerful player in the alliance is usually selected as the primary rally or garrison leader because that player's:
- Hero stats
- Chief Gear
- Chief Charms
- Research
- Pet buffs
- Troop tier
- Rally capacity
can affect the entire formation.
If you're preparing your account specifically for large-scale PvP, our Whiteout Survival Chief Gear Guide 2026 explains which Chief Gear pieces are worth upgrading first.
Turrets
The four Turrets surrounding Sunfire Castle are not optional side objectives.
They can continuously attack the alliance occupying the Castle if the Turret and Castle are controlled by opposing sides.
The longer a Turret remains occupied, the stronger or more frequent its attacks become.
That means you should not simply capture Sunfire Castle and ignore everything around it.
If your alliance holds the Castle, controlling Turrets significantly reduces pressure on your garrison.
Why Turrets Matter
Turret attacks are especially dangerous because they can gradually weaken Castle defenders between enemy rallies.
Even if your opponent cannot immediately defeat your garrison, repeated Turret fire may reduce your Infantry and make the next rally much more dangerous.
A strong alliance therefore usually divides responsibilities:
- Main rally leaders attack Sunfire Castle.
- Secondary rally leaders pressure Turrets.
- Smaller players reinforce.
- Field players protect rally leaders and disrupt enemy cities.
Ruin Zone
The area around Sunfire Castle contains Ruins that significantly reduce march speed when troops pass through them.
This makes positioning important.
If your city is too far away, reinforcements can take much longer to arrive.
That delay can be enough for an enemy rally to defeat your garrison before replacement troops reach the Castle.
Whenever possible, active Sunfire participants should teleport close to the battlefield before the fight begins.
Alert Zone
The red area around Sunfire Castle is the Alert Zone.
Two hours before the Castle's protection ends, cities located inside this area can be randomly teleported away by the storm.
After the storm ends, players can teleport back into the Alert Zone and prepare for battle.
One important point:
Teleporting into the Alert Zone removes your active Shield, and you cannot simply rely on shielding while fighting around the Castle.
So do not teleport into the center of the battlefield unless you are ready to participate.
Best Sunfire Castle Attack Strategy
Attacking Sunfire Castle is usually harder than holding it because defenders can continuously reinforce.
Random rallies rarely work against an organized alliance.
You need coordinated pressure.
1. Use Your Strongest Rally Leader
Your strongest rally leader should usually be the player with the best overall combat stats.
That means looking beyond simple player Power.
Important stats include:
- Infantry Health and Defense
- Troop Attack
- Troop Lethality
- Hero bonuses
- Chief Gear
- Chief Charms
- Hero Gear
- Research
- Pet Skills
Two players can have similar total Power but completely different rally strength.
Choose the leader based on real combat stats, not just the number displayed beside their city.
For current hero investment priorities, our Whiteout Survival Hero Tier List 2026 can help identify which heroes remain strong for rally and garrison content.
2. Coordinate Rally Timing
A single rally gives defenders time to refill the Castle.
Two or more coordinated rallies are much harder to survive.
One common strategy is the double rally.
The first rally arrives and destroys a large portion of the defending Infantry.
The second rally lands only seconds later, before defenders have fully reinforced.
The first rally does not necessarily need to win.
Its job may simply be to weaken the garrison enough for the second rally to capture the Castle.
3. Don't Stack Every Rally at the Same Time
There is a difference between synchronized rallies and chaotic rallies.
If ten players launch whenever they want, defenders can heal and reinforce between attacks.
Instead, leadership should call rally windows.
For example:
Rally A → Rally B 2–5 seconds later → Rally C immediately behind
This creates continuous pressure and limits the defender's recovery time.
4. Attack the Turrets Too
If the defending alliance also controls all four Turrets, they have a much easier time holding Sunfire Castle.
Pressure at least one or two Turrets while attacking the Castle.
Even forcing the enemy to divide strong players between several objectives can weaken the main garrison.
Best Troop Formation for Attacking Sunfire Castle
There is no single formation that works for every State or Hero Generation.
However, most Castle attack formations should remain Infantry-heavy because Infantry absorbs the majority of the incoming damage.

A common starting point is approximately:
50% Infantry / 20% Lancer / 30% Marksman
The exact ratio should change depending on:
- Hero Generation
- Troop tier
- Enemy composition
- Rally leader stats
- Hero skills
- State meta
You should never copy a troop ratio blindly.
Use battle reports.
If your Infantry disappears long before your Marksmen have time to deal damage, increase Infantry.
If too many Infantry survive but your rally lacks damage, you may be able to move more capacity into Lancers or Marksmen.
Best Sunfire Castle Defense Strategy
Defending the Castle is not simply about placing your strongest player inside and hoping for the best.
The garrison needs constant support.
1. Use a Strong Garrison Leader
Your best defensive player should lead the Castle.
Prioritize heroes and stats that increase:
- Infantry survivability
- Troop Health
- Troop Defense
- Damage reduction
- Enemy Attack reduction
- Overall garrison durability
Higher-generation defensive heroes can significantly outperform older recommendations, so there is no universal "best Sunfire hero" for every State.
2. Keep Reinforcements Moving
A Castle that looks full can still need reinforcements.
During enemy rallies, defenders lose troops.
Incoming reinforcements can automatically fill those empty spaces.
So if leadership says:
Keep reinforcing
do not stop just because the garrison currently appears full.
Your reinforcement march may arrive exactly when the next rally hits.
3. Infantry Is the Backbone of Defense
For Castle defense, Infantry is usually even more important than for attacking.
Without enough Infantry, enemy damage can quickly reach Lancers and Marksmen.
An Infantry-heavy defensive formation gives your damage dealers more time to survive.
A common defensive starting point is around:
60% Infantry / 40% Lancer or Marksman combined
But once again, your actual battle reports matter more than one fixed number.
4. Protect the Garrison Leader's City
The player holding the Castle can also become a target in the field.
Enemies may attack or rally their city to disrupt them.
Nearby alliance members should help protect important rally leaders, especially if they are positioned close to the battlefield.
Best Heroes for Sunfire Castle
Hero recommendations depend heavily on State age.
A Gen 2 State should not use the same lineup as a Gen 10 or Gen 16 State.
The better approach is to understand roles.
Rally Leader
Use your strongest PvP lineup.
Look for:
- High Attack
- High Lethality
- Enemy debuffs
- Rally Attack bonuses
- Strong current-generation stats
Garrison Leader
Use heroes built around:
- Health
- Defense
- Damage reduction
- Enemy Attack reduction
- Infantry protection
Rally Joiners
This part is extremely important.
When you join another player's rally, only a limited number of joiner Expedition skills contribute to the rally.
That means your first hero matters much more than the other two.
For attacking rallies, heroes such as Jessie remain useful in earlier States because her Expedition skill improves offensive performance.
For defense, heroes such as Patrick or Sergey are commonly used in earlier generations because their Expedition abilities help survivability.
At later generations, replace these with stronger heroes that provide equivalent or better rally/garrison bonuses.
Do not simply send your highest-Power hero.
Check the Expedition skill.
Sunfire Castle Rally Joiner Rules
One of the biggest mistakes newer players make is joining a rally with random heroes.
Your rally leader's heroes determine the main formation, but several joiner skills can also contribute.
Because only a limited number of the strongest relevant joiner skills take effect, leadership should standardize which hero alliance members use in Slot 1.
For example:
Attack Rally → offensive Expedition hero in Slot 1
Castle Reinforcement → defensive Expedition hero in Slot 1
This avoids weaker or irrelevant buffs replacing more useful ones.
If your alliance is serious about Sunfire, R4/R5 should publish the required Slot 1 hero before the event starts.
What Should Weaker Players Do?
You do not need to be a whale to matter in Sunfire Castle.
Lower-power players can still contribute through:
- Rally joining
- Reinforcing Castle
- Reinforcing Turrets
- Attacking enemy Turrets
- Protecting rally leaders
- Healing
- Field attacks
- Scoring casualties
- Sending troops quickly after each garrison loss
In fact, a coordinated alliance with many active mid-power members can overwhelm an alliance that has only a few extremely strong accounts.
Sunfire Castle rewards numbers and organization.
Sunfire Castle Scoring
There are three main ways to gain points during the battle:
Carnage Points
Earned by defeating enemy troops while fighting for:
- Sunfire Castle
- Turrets
Occupation Points
Earned by placing troops inside Sunfire Castle or Turrets.
The amount is influenced by the power of the troops occupying the structure.
Casualty Points
Earned when your troops become severely injured or are lost during qualifying battles.
This means you can score even if your alliance is not strong enough to hold the Castle permanently.
Participating in rallies, reinforcing, and fighting around Turrets can still generate substantial personal points.
How to Get More Personal Points9i8
If your main goal is personal rewards rather than Presidency, prioritize active combat.
A practical scoring loop is:
- Join rallies.
- Fight for Turrets.
- Heal wounded troops.
- Rejoin.
- Repeat.
Batch healing can help significantly.
Instead of healing your entire Infirmary at once, heal smaller groups and use alliance help to reduce the timer.
This lets you return troops to battle much faster.
However, Sunfire can consume enormous amounts of healing resources and speedups.
Set a target.
Do not spend several weeks of resources just to climb a few positions on the leaderboard.
Sunfire Castle Rewards
Sunfire Castle rewards can include:
- Sunfire Tokens
- Gems
- Speedups
- Fire Crystals
- Hero-related materials
- Resource items
- City Skin rewards
- Alliance ranking rewards
Some personal milestone rewards also provide valuable progression materials, making the event worth participating in even if your alliance is not competing for Presidency.
Sunfire Tokens are especially useful because they are tied to the Castle Battle reward ecosystem.
Reward values may change between versions or States, so always verify the current in-game reward screen before spending heavily for a specific milestone.
How President Works After Sunfire Castle
Winning Sunfire Castle is not only about loot.
The winning alliance gains control over the President appointment.
The R5 of the winning alliance has a limited period after victory to select an alliance member as President.
If no one is selected within that time, the R5 becomes President automatically.
The President can appoint Ministers and use State-level abilities.

President Combat Bonus
The President receives strong troop bonuses.
Current reference data lists the normal President as gaining approximately:
- +5% Troop Attack
- +5% Troop Defense
- +5% Troop Lethality
- +5% Troop Health
Supreme President bonuses can be higher.
Minister Positions

Minister roles provide temporary bonuses such as:
- Construction Speed
- Research Speed
- Training Speed
- Healing Speed
- Resource Production
- Troop Attack
- Troop Lethality
- Deployment Capacity
This is why Presidency affects the entire State rather than only the winning alliance.
Sunfire Castle vs SvS Sunfire Castle
Sunfire Castle appears in both normal State competition and State of Power.
Most battle mechanics remain similar, but the political consequences are much larger during SvS.
Normal Sunfire Castle
Alliances from the same State compete.
The winning alliance gains the ability to appoint the State President.
SvS Sunfire Castle
During State of Power, two States fight over the Castle.
The battle takes place in the State that lost the Preparation Phase.
The final political result depends on both:
- Preparation Phase winner
- Castle Battle winner
Winning both phases can result in a Supreme President, who gains authority across both participating States.
This makes the SvS version significantly more important than a normal domestic Castle rotation.
Sunfire Castle vs Fortress Battle
These two events are easy to confuse because both involve capturing structures.
But they are different.
Sunfire Castle is centered around one major Castle, four Turrets, Presidency, and State-level control.
Fortress Battle involves multiple Fortresses and Strongholds across the World Map and is focused more heavily on seasonal alliance territory and rewards.
If you are preparing for the other major alliance occupation event, check our Whiteout Survival Fortress Battle Guide 2026 for registration, occupation, buffs, and reward strategy.
Best Sunfire Castle Strategy for Alliance Leaders
R4 and R5 should prepare before the battle begins.
Do not wait until the Castle opens to decide roles.
Before Battle
Assign:
- Main rally leader
- Backup rally leader
- Main garrison leader
- Turret rally leaders
- Shot-caller
- Reinforcement groups
- Required rally joiner hero
- Standard troop ratios
Make sure everyone knows where to teleport.
Opening Phase
Do not instantly waste every rally.
Check which alliances are contesting the Castle.
Some States have predetermined Presidency rotations through NAP agreements, while others fight seriously.
If it is a true battle, establish control quickly but do not sacrifice every resource in the first 20 minutes.
Mid Battle
Track:
- Consecutive occupation timer
- Total occupation time
- Turret ownership
- Enemy rally timing
- Garrison capacity
- Key players' troop availability
This is where good shot-calling matters most.
Final Phase
If the enemy can still reach a 2.5-hour continuous hold, break their occupation at all costs.
Once the battle moves beyond the point where a new 2.5-hour hold is possible, focus on cumulative time instead.
Do not confuse these two goals.
Common Sunfire Castle Mistakes
Using Old 3-Hour / 6-Hour Rules
This is the biggest information mistake.
The current standard is 2.5 hours continuous occupation within a maximum 5-hour battle.
Ignoring Turrets
Castle defenders can slowly be destroyed by Turret fire.
Better: Assign separate teams to control Turrets.
Random Rally Joiner Heroes
A high-Power hero does not automatically provide a useful Expedition buff.
Better: Follow the alliance's Slot 1 hero rule.
Everyone Launching Rallies Independently
Uncoordinated rallies give defenders time to refill.
Better: Stack rallies with controlled arrival times.
Too Few Infantry in Garrison
If your Infantry collapses, your backline follows quickly.
Better: Maintain a strong Infantry front line.
Stopping Reinforcements Because the Castle Looks Full
The garrison can lose troops seconds later.
Better: Keep reinforcement waves moving.
Spending Too Many Speedups for Personal Rank
Sunfire can drain weeks of resources.
Better: Set a personal score target before the battle.

Sunfire Castle FAQ
How Long Does Sunfire Castle Battle Last?
The current standard maximum duration is 5 hours.
Older guides may still show six hours, but that rule has been updated.
How Long Do You Need to Hold Sunfire Castle to Win?
You must hold the Castle for 2.5 consecutive hours.
If nobody achieves that, the alliance with the longest total occupation time wins.
How Often Does Sunfire Castle Happen?
The normal Castle Battle follows a recurring State schedule, commonly around a two-week cycle, while the Castle is also contested during State of Power.
What Do the Turrets Do?
Turrets attack the alliance occupying Sunfire Castle if they are controlled by an opposing alliance or side.
The longer a Turret remains controlled, the more dangerous its attacks become.
What Is the Best Troop Ratio for Sunfire Castle?
There is no universal ratio.
A common starting point for attacking is approximately 50/20/30 Infantry/Lancer/Marksman, while defending usually uses a heavier Infantry ratio.
Adjust using battle reports and your current Hero Generation.
What Are the Best Heroes for Sunfire Castle?
Use your strongest current-generation PvP heroes as rally or garrison leaders.
Rally joiners should prioritize useful Expedition buffs rather than raw Power.
Can F2P Players Help in Sunfire Castle?
Absolutely.
F2P players can join rallies, reinforce Castle and Turrets, heal troops, score casualties, and provide the constant reinforcement volume needed to keep a garrison alive.
What Happens After Winning Sunfire Castle?
The winning alliance gains the right to appoint the State President.
The President can assign Minister positions and use State-level skills and buffs.
Conclusion
Winning Sunfire Castle in Whiteout Survival is much more about coordination than simply having the strongest player in the State.
The most important rules to remember are simple: hold the Castle for 2.5 consecutive hours, control the Turrets, keep Infantry alive, coordinate rallies, and never stop reinforcing your garrison.
The best alliances also understand the clock. Before a clean 2.5-hour hold becomes impossible, one successful recapture can reset the entire battle. After that point, total occupation time becomes everything.
Whether you're fighting for your first Presidency or preparing for a full SvS Castle war, Sunfire is one of the clearest tests of alliance organization in Whiteout Survival.
